Connected Teaching

In the wake of the Seo-i Elementary School tragedy, an unnoticed fracture quietly took hold in the hearts of many teachers. They found themselves hesitating before reaching out warmly to students, abandoning plans for new lessons day after day. As the connections between teachers, students, and parents continue to fray, what can teachers do to rebuild relationships and restore those connections through their teaching?
Shin Euljin, director of the Institute for Teaching and Growth, who has led teacher training and instructional coaching for years, launched the "Connected Teaching Project" in search of answers. Five teachers from different schools and different subjects—each carrying their own struggles—came together to look inward, rebuild the relationships within their classrooms, and rediscover the connection between teaching and life. Connected Teaching, a meticulous record of that journey, offers a path toward restoring broken connections. Through LENS conversations that help teachers reflect on their inner selves and identify their strengths, and through LINK practices that carry those strengths into everyday lessons, the five teachers each overcome their challenges and take steps toward teaching that is authentically their own.
Rather than a manual that hands down answers, this book captures the process of walking together and finding one's own way. It offers grounded advice and a way forward for every teacher who feels shaken in the classroom today.
